A replica of the 1st vessel commanded by Capt. John Pual Jones during the Revolutionary War. the sloop Providence has been a "star" in the 2nd "Pirates of the Carribean". The 100' topsail sloop has returned to the Great Lakes with educational programs on the maritime and naval history of the 18th century.

History comes alive aboard the Continental Sloop Providence! This 110' traditionally rigged sailing vessel is the faithful replica of John Paul Jones' first command. During her distinguished Naval career, the 12-gun Providence sank or captured 40 British enemy ships! The Sloop Providence is operated by the Providence Maritime Heritage Foundation which is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.

The Providence appears in a number of scenes in "Dead Man's Chest". She is in the background as a British vessel in the harbor of Port Royal and as a pirate ship at the dock in Tortuga. Her best scene is as a merchant vessel from which Captain Jack Sparrow's hat is retrieved. The merchant ship then suffers the fate of being destroyed by a sea monster, the Kraken!
